My Westies have beard stains and they have been licking their feet a lot lately and they are stained, too. What is a safe way to make them white again?

Uhh….I dont know that you can, short of shaving the beard and start again. The dog will lick his mouth though. The stains will return. I think its cute. Embrace it.

Try some hydrogen peroxide and a little water in a spary bottle and the use some dog shampoo to wah it off. It will not hurt your dog and it does work, it might take a couple of times but it will work and to keep it white try and do it at least once a week.

Fur is hollow. When your dog eats food with high amounts of dye in it the fur will absorb the dye in the folice. Thus making the beard stained brown. When your dog licks and bites at its feet it raises blood to the skins surface. Again, because the hair folice is hollow it absorbs the blood cells, turning the fur the reddish, brown color. This same fact applies to the beard as well. It is very hard to get rid of the staining, even with bleaching agents that I would not recomend. This is something that you will have to live with or change the food to low dye and try to prevent biting and licking at your dogs feet. The biting and licking can be from allergies. My female has allergies to grass and ragweed, so her feet turn that brown/redish color as well. The fur will eventually grow out and become white again.

They do sell shampoo’s and solutions to help get the stains off. Try a pet store or in a catalog like foster and smith. They also have a web site drsfostersmith.com.
