** Puppy ABUSED ** used as football – Animal protection HORRIFIED

The SPCA says it is shocked at the mistreatment of a young puppy at the hands of a group of Auckland children. They were seen using it as a football and a basketball, and the animal cruelty group is worried about the boys’ behaviour and how it could escalate. The labrador cross is only two months old, but it has already suffered severe trauma and serious bruising at the hands of a group of young boys. “He was shaking, continuously shaking, whimpering… he was very scared, very scared and very tired,” says animal welfare inspector Lori Davis. The SPCA was called to the South Auckland Papakura park yesterday night in response to what they describe as a “distressing scene”. It was there that a neighbour reported seeing four children aged 12 to 13 kicking the puppy like a football, and throwing it through the basketball hoop. “Throwing him on the ground, kicking him around — she’d seen it happen the night before, Saturday night as well,” Ms Davis says. Cruelty to household pets has been in the headlines recently, with British woman Mary Bale condemned worldwide for a spontaneous act of throwing a cat in a wheelie bin. MARSTONS MILLMS, MA- Dutch the puggle was home safe and sound this morning, albeit a little thinner for his three days and nights in woods and thickets near the Marstons Mills Airfield. The young pug-beagle mix had been missing since Monday night when he escaped the fire that destroyed the Cape Cod Animal Hospital and killed three cats and a dog. A dozen other dogs also survived the fire. Cape Cod Animal Hospital fireThis morning Dutch ran into the outstretched arms of his owner Stephen Elio after being found in the parking lot at the airfield. Stoli, an aging lab-chow mix owned by Elios older brother greeted his little canine friend with whines and rapidly wagging tail. The brothers had brought Stoli on their search in hopes he could lure Dutch into the open. This is one of the happiest days of my life. Hes my little buddy, said Elio in a choked voice as medical technicians from the Animal Hospital checked out Dutch in the bed of a pick-up truck parked at the airfield. I was going crazy worrying about him. Dutch survived three nights in an area thick with coyotes, a rain storm and high winds. After the quick on-site check by the animal medical experts, Dutch was bound for home where he was bathed and fed small amounts of food throughout the day. Today, after being found, he seemed to want nothing more than to lick his owners face and hop into his owners car. Puppy Purchase Precautions

VICTORIA – A Victoria couple is warning people to do their homework, after the puppy they bought at a pet store died from Parvo-Virus. James Whittall and Holly Unsworth bought the four month old puppy from pet store ‘Creatures Great and Small.’ They claim a veterinarian told them the puppy received two vaccinations, but they were given too far apart, making the dog vulnerable to the highly contagious disease. The pet store was not available to comment on the case. The BC SPCA says the pet store industry isn’t regulated, and people need to do their homework before they buy.
