Discussing puppy mills & Vegetarianism… the diet isn’t perfect, however it is the lesser of two evils… mind you Veganism (with honey) is probably the best bet & so is adopting pets exclusively from animal hospitals/shelters :) Stay educated! Puppies chasing chickens: Dog Training

November 20, 2011 by admin

www.pamsdogacademy.com The other day we worked with Blue on learning how to be calm around the family chickens. He was running back and forth chasing chickens and looking for chickens when I arrived. Now he is calmly hanging out with them. This is the same thing that I do with my dogs or clients dogs that like to chase cats. Prevention is key! When the dog is reinforced for the proper behavior the dog is more likely to repeat that behavior. Because chasing chickens, cats or other things is highly reinforcing YOU MUST have a plan, a GREAT REWARD, a leash to prevent failure, and set the dog up to succeed. We were able to start really close to the chickens, but if the puppy was not able to be calm, then I would have moved the puppy further away until he was below his threshold. There was only one time in this session that I had to interrupt Blue for staring at the chicken and doing his herding stocking behavior. Have a great Day! Pam, Isabelle, Bandit & Twix
