Have you ever wondered where pet stores in Indiana get those cute puppies? 13 Investigates spent eight months tracking Indiana’s internal puppy pipeline, and it begins in a place few people would expect. Daviess County is a quiet farming community two hours southwest of Indianapolis, and it is also the puppy breeding capital of Indiana. Towns such as Odon and Loogootee are home to dozens of Amish families who operate large-scale breeding kennels.
i have heard the amish raise these dogs and if they dont sell them within the first few months they kill them. once they are out of their “cute” puppy stage they dont want them anymore. thats sick and disgusting. i went to uncle bills a few weeks ago, they are charging $1500 for some of these dogs that are mixed breeds. its ridiculous and sick.
search around for a local breeder, even look a bit further, usually the best can be found somewhere out in the countryside, word of mouth and the net are the best way to find them
That breaks my heart! My dog was bought from an Indiana pet store, He died shortly after he turned 8! I now know ALL about these awful mills!!

Can you back up your claim that “some are good” with evidence? Can you give specific examples of pet stores who get their puppies from reputable, responsible breeders?
Can you provide photos of the puppies parents and their living conditions as well as the genetic testing the breeders have done to ensure they are producing sound and healthy puppies?
yes, some are good but most are bad. how will you ever know? if you buy a puppy and it just so happens to be from a puppy mill, then you will be supporting a huge commercial operation that kills millions of innocent dogs every year.
by adopting, you can give hope and a new life to a deserving dog OR puppy (you can find BOTH at shelters). plus, with an adult dog, you already know their personality and what they look like. plus some may already be house-trained/trained in general.
who can tell me where else can i buy a puppy?
Don’t let this stop you from purchasing dogs and animals from pet stores. SOME are bad, and some are good. If you adopt a dog,there’s less good selection, and many are adults. If you find something you like, however, adopt the dog!

Dogs actually go mentaly crazy, as in you need to be in a instituded into a nut house, crazy when they’re confined into a cage most or all their lives. So its not true that dogs can handel living in a cage.

uncle bills gets all their puppies from puppy mills me and my aunt went in there and asked them and they didn’t have an answer. puppy mills are horrible i just wish i could do more to stop them. we’ve gotten all of our dogs from shelters thats where people should go to get their pets.

You are so naive to think that these animals come from “private breeders”. If you want to do some real volunteer work, then maybe you should look into the Humane Society or a No Kill Shelter and find the animals there good homes.

Have you personally been to these “private breeder’s” kennels? If so, I’m sure you will have no problem sharing what you found.
What was their setup like?
What are the living conditions of the parents?
How many dogs do they have?
How many of the breeding kennels have you seen?
Please, enlighten us with actual facts. Not what the manager at the pet store told you to say.
Anyone considering buying a puppy should only buy from a small breeder like the one seen in this video… someone you can actually go to their home, see the parents, etc…
Never buy at a pet store. Never support a pet store that sells puppies. Only support pet stores that have shelter dogs in them available for adoption. If everyone would spread the word, bombard legislators with letters, and cut off the demand things may change. But it’s going to take an army of us to accomplish it.
Oh, yes I’m sure keeping a dog in a cage it’s entire life, is the best way to raise a dog!! Having it’s name be USDA #21562 it’s entire life is sure wonderful! Having to run in circles and have no human interaction is just a perfect way to raise a dog! thanks for the advice! I’m sure my Australian Shepherd would love it!
Abuse and exploitation of animals is unjustifiable and should be unlawful. These people are a bunch of money hungry crooks. They need to live their lives in a cage without any human attention, namely “solitary confinement” in prison. Publicity is the key to ending the torture of animals.
I don’t see how this guy could possibly say a dog could be contented spending all its life in a cage that’s ‘regulation sized’. Let’s put a toilet in a closet and deliver food and water let him live his whole in it and see how he likes it. Even prisoners in jail get to go outside in the exercise yard.

this is so inhumane. if you want to buy a dog, pick up a news paper and go to the breader. STAY AWAY FROM PET STORES!! GET THE WORD OUT! BOYCOTT!! I KNEW I HATED THEM OMISH FOR A REASON! IM ASHAMED TO BE A HOOSIER NOW.
