A Florida couple pays 5,000 for a cloned puppy — watch the pup play ! [JAN 2009]

___________________________

A couple from Boca Raton, FL reports that they have purchased the first single-birth, commercially cloned puppy in the United States.

BioArts International created a genetic clone of Nina and Edgar Ott’s deceased yellow lab, Lancelot. The puppy, Lancelot Encore, was born 10 wks ago in South Korea, and delivered to the couple at Miami International Airport on Monday night.

The Otts believed that genetic cloning would someday be possible and had their lab’s DNA collected, and frozen, 5 years ago. Their prior dog, Lancelot, passed away in January 2008. BioArts held an auction for their dog cloning service this past July, and the Otts paid 5,000 for their chance to have Lancelot genetically reproduced.

In August 2008, Bernann McKinney had 5 pit bull terrier puppies genetically reproduced from her deceased companion, Booger. Animal charities deeply condemned the practice at the time, citing the thousands of dogs needing homes in area shelters. Opponents also remind those considering cloning that life experiences affect personalities, not just genetics.

Apparently the science to continue this practice is here, if you have the money and the desire to pursue it.

In these times of great financial uncertainty, it is disgusting how these two members of the bourgeoisie class flaunt money in the eyes of unfortunates. Once the people become angrier, I can only hope the poor and unemployed rise up in opposition to the rich American Aristocracy and wealthy bourgeoisie, that the people will remember these two and their pet, and let the two of them go to the guillotine first, and that the pet bring joy and happiness to the children of the poor!

    YES WE CAN!

What fucking assholes, 155,000 would have been much better used to help kids battling cancer instead of cloning your fucking dog. Selfishness at it’s finest. I can’t believe i have to live in the same town as these people.

  13. faething on February 7th, 2009 7:42 am

I would be worried that the pup may get cancer too.

  14. cardieunion on February 7th, 2009 7:42 am

Sounds like BS to me. I know how dog food is made, and it hasn’t changed in decades.

  15. tripperwood on February 7th, 2009 7:42 am

Yes, the new Lancelot will probably will probably die of cancer, but not from being cloned, it’s the dog food that is causing the cancer. It’s a sad truth!

  16. oneasha on February 7th, 2009 7:42 am

Um, I don’t know about all that … but won’t the cloned puppy wind up dying of cancer as well? Wtf?

  17. cardieunion on February 7th, 2009 7:42 am

In the video, it said the owners have 9 other dogs. If the original Lancelot wasn’t raised around dogs, than his clone’s personality will be much different this time around. Personally, I find that dogs raised only around people, are much more well behaved than dogs raised around other dogs. My pet golden was raised only around humans, while his brother (who my sister owns)was raised around 3 other dogs. The two dogs are MUCH different. My golden is much better around my nephews than his brother.
